Everything is better when it's lean, even coffee and functional programming.
We'll try the lean coffee format at at (def shef 41)... bring your own agenda! Anything you want to talk about, whatever your experience with functional programming. The broader range of topics the better!
Where and When? Rutland Arms, upstairs room - I'll be there from 18:30 and we'll kick off properly at 19:00, rocking up early or late is fine.
What do I need? Nothing - just bring yourself.
Join the #def_shef channel on the Sheffield Digital slack to keep up to date and talk to other functional programming enthuiasts
We're in a new venue this month, the upstairs room at the Rutland Arms in Sheffield.
This is an open session. Everyone is welcome to come along, regardless of experience. If you don't know what functional programming is (or why you care), or if you want to talk Clojure vs. Haskell, this is the session for you!
Suddenly July is upon is... It's time for another Test Gathering!
Still riding the wave of SteelCon, security is at the front of everybody's mind right now. We know all about securely creating and storing passwords. And the importance of firewalls, input sanitation and 'Little Bobby Tables'. Some of us might even know all about SSL, TLS, SNI and RSA... But what about the most complex and yet most vulnerable bit of any computer system? The organic component that pushes the buttons!
At this month's meetup we'll be exploring some of the different methods that certain unsavoury characters might use to get you to part with your precious passwords. And Razor's very own unsavoury character, Gabriel 'Gabz t3h h4kzor' McNeilly will be demonstrating some of his favourites.
Upstairs in the Rutland as usual. Doors at 6:30pm. Talk kicks off at 7. Hopefully followed by beers and lively debate.
Kicking things off for 2017, I'll be presenting a very basic 'How to get from nothing to something with Selenium Webdriver'. Automation is always a popular topic, and I know everyone always enjoys watching me flap my way through a live demo.
There'll be a short beer break and then 3squared's Alex Bennell will be talking about Test Estimation, another contentious topic (but aren't they all). This will hopefully devolve into the usual lively debate and open floor discussion.
And the important details - As it's the first one of the year, there will be a bar tab!
Doors at 6:30pm. We'll be kicking the talks off at 7pm.
Hope to see you all there.

What tools do you use to help your daily testing? It could either be something you've built or a product or service that you use. Whether it's a tool, a framework, a handy script you wrote yourself or even just a couple of chrome plugins that you think are really useful. If you've got something that makes your life a little bit easier then we'd love to hear about it.
You don't need to be an expert or a sales rep. But if you're one or both then that's OK too. You can talk for 5 minutes or as long as you need.
If you've got something that you would like to share then just drop me a line.
This month we're having another planning session about what First Play Sheffield should offer in the next few months. Got an idea for a talk or activity? Want to hear a talk about something? Want some advice about ideas? Come along and help us plan!
