Wisdom and wealth, are bitcoin newcomers doomed? - Max Sherwood - https://www.linkedin.com/in/markus-max-sherwood-1ba024120 After mining bitcoin in 2013 and witnessing the technology firsthand, Max began investing and proceeded to learn many lessons the hard way. Five years later, his failures led to eventual success, but he wondered what it would take for new crypto investors to avoid these painful experiences and make the right moves from Day 1. In 2019, Max launched an online course for beginner bitcoin investors, pointing to the lack of high-quality investment information as a major hurdle to bitcoin’s adoption. Full agenda and location will be confirmed ASAP - The event will be in Edinburgh.

GDPR defines an increased focused on encryption and pseudo-anonymization. But many recent data breaches have shown that organisations often have poor practice when it comes to the anonymisation of personally identifiable information. And so, in future systems, we need to focus on the anonymisation the lowest layers of our data gathering, and then identify methods of revealing the information. But how are we going to apply machine learning into infrastructure which use encrypted data? And how are we going to identify individuals within anonymised infrastructures? And how are we going to be able to regulate for consent, privacy and governance?
This Meetup includes presentations on:
Anonymised and Distributed Machine Learning, Adam Hall. 20 mins - https://www.linkedin.com/in/adam-james-hall-1b0229113
Digital Wallets, Will Abramson. 20 mins. https://www.linkedin.com/in/will-abramson-639975120/
The Future of Cryptography: Range Proofs, Mimblewimble, and other Crypto Magic, Prof Bill Buchanan. 30-40 mins. https://www.linkedin.com/in/billatnapier
This is a joint Scottish Blockchain and Scotland Data Science & Technology Meetup

Andreas M. Antonopoulos is a critically-acclaimed best-selling author, speaker, educator, and one of the world’s foremost bitcoin and open blockchain experts. Andreas makes complex subjects accessible and easy to understand. He is known for delivering electric talks that combine economics, psychology, technology, and game theory with current events, personal anecdote, and historical precedent—effortlessly transliterating the complex issues of blockchain technology out of the abstract and into the real world.
In 2014, Antonopoulos authored the groundbreaking book Mastering Bitcoin (O’Reilly Media, 2014), widely considered to be the best technical guide ever written about the technology. His second book, The Internet of Money (Merkle Bloom LLC, 2016)—which explains the technology’s potential impacts on human civilization—is a bestseller on Amazon.
The much-anticipated second volume of The Internet of Money was released in the late fall of 2017 and sold thousands of copies in the first month alone. His fourth book, Mastering Ethereum (O’Reilly Media, 2018), was followed swiftly behind and was published in 2018.
Antonopoulos is: an expert who has been interviewed on the BBC, Bloomberg Business, CNN, The Economist, Forbes, and Motherboard/VICE; a widely published author of articles and blog posts on bitcoin; a permanent host on the popular Let’s Talk Bitcoin Podcast; a frequent speaker at technology and security conferences worldwide.
Andreas M. Antonopoulos was born in London, England, and raised in Athens, Greece. After earning degrees in Computer Science, Data Communications and Distributed Systems at University College London, he went on to co-found and manage a technology research company in New York City. In this capacity, Antonopoulos advised dozens of Fortune 500 company executives on networking, security, data centers, and cloud computing—more than 200 of his articles on security, cloud computing, and data centers have been published in print and syndicated worldwide.
In 1990, he began to move into the public eye as an educator and speaker. Antonopoulos honed his public speaking skills in front of audiences ranging from five executives in a corporate boardroom to thousands in conferences. With more than 1,000 speaking engagements under his belt, he has become one of the world’s most sought-after bitcoin speakers who can explain the far-reaching complexities of the technology in deeply human terms. In 2014, Antonopoulos was appointed a teaching fellow with the University of Nicosia, the first university in the world to offer a Masters Degree in Digital Currency.
He helped to develop the curriculum and continues to co-teach the Introduction to Digital Currencies course that is offered as a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). Antonopoulos is one of the rare bitcoin and open blockchain experts who approaches the subject from an educational, political, cultural, and human perspective—not merely discussing the technology in investment terms. He serves on the Oversight Committee for the Bitcoin Reference Rate at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and has appeared as an expert witness in various capacities, testifying in hearings of the Australian Senate Banking Committee and the Canadian Senate Commerce, Banking and Finance Committee—his testimony for the latter has been lauded as an historically-important presentation that has influenced public policy vis-a-vis bitcoin in Canada and globally.

His fourth book, Mastering Ethereum (O’Reilly Media, 2018), is following swiftly behind and will be published in the fall of 2018.

Ben Whittle, Crypto Asset Analyst, Investor, and Writer, will discuss how we can separate quality blockchain projects from the hype, vaporware, and outright scams that unfortunately still dominate large parts of the industry.
Blockchain and cryptocurrencies are often presented as a panacea to all manner of existing problems. The reality is that this technology, when used properly, ensures that certain tradeoffs must be made. Businesses and organizations need to be sure that their market problem can actually be solved with a blockchain.
In his talk, Ben will outline some of the parameters, tests, and questions we can apply to make sure we are not misled. The crypto asset markets are growing at unbelievable speeds and keeping informed about new technologies, opportunities and projects can be problematic. By the end of this talk, you will have a clear and simple understanding of how to better identify quality blockchain projects and crypto assets.
The goal of the Blockchain & FinTech Society is to encourage people to inform themselves about Blockchain, Cryptocurrencies & FinTech because we are convinced, they will play a large role in the future.

Anonymised Machine Learning with Distributed -full title is in the event details
Description changed:
This is a joint Scottish Blockchain and Scotland Data Science & Technology Meetup
Title: Towards Anonymization for Learning, Transactions and Credentials Within Distributed Trust Infrastructures
Speakers: Will Abramson, Liam Bell, Bill Buchanan, Adam Hall: Blockpass ID Lab.
Date: Tuesday 25th June 2019 @ 6pm
Outline:
GDPR defines an increased focused on encryption and pseudo-anonymization. But many recent data breaches have shown that organisations often have poor practice when it comes to the anonymisation of personally identifiable information. And so, in future systems, we need to focus on the anonymisation the lowest layers of our data gathering, and then identify methods of revealing the information. But how are we going to apply machine learning into infrastructure which use encrypted data? And how are we going to identify individuals within anonymised infrastructures? And how are we going to be able to regulate for consent, privacy and governance?
This Meetup will outline current research into areas such as machine learning on encrypted data, anonymised and trusted credentials, range proofs, and in the trusted deletion of data.
Speakers:
Anonymised and Distributed Machine Learning, Adam Hall. 20 min - https://www.linkedin.com/in/adam-james-hall-1b0229113

Words such as conservative, risk averse and late adopters are often used to describe the Oil and Gas Industry’s appetite for emerging technology. Data Gumbo is witnessing an entirely different attitude. In fact, the Oil and Gas Industry excites us because there is so much opportunity to simplify an already heavily interconnected network.
Data Gumbo identified the challenges faced by upstream and midstream operators and their supply chains, but we didn’t stop our commercial internet vision there. We’ve designed a blockchain-based B2B platform with industry in mind. Industries where thought leaders are recognizing how the powerful combination of IoT, smart contracts and distributed ledgers can reshape how transactions are initiated, confirmed and settled. We share the achievable goal of removing field tickets, reconciliation and long payment cycles. Data Gumbo’s blockchain-as-a-service makes autonomous contract execution as easy as a handshake. The way agreements used to be made and still are with parties who trust one another.
In this Meetup, Lisa M. Smith, Data Gumbo’s Chief Development Officer will share what Data Gumbo has been up to since 2016.
Lisa M. Smith is Chief Corporate Development Officer for Data Gumbo. Lisa’s passion for digital strategy is represented in her 30 years of management consulting and program delivery successes. She has launched and operated several overseas technical delivery centres, managed marketing and proposal centres and served as a trusted advisor to global clients. Lisa is focused on building Data Gumbo’s brand, forming strategic partnerships and educating our clients on the power of blockchain-based solutions. Lisa holds an MBA from Emory University, a BS from the University of Iowa and has completed Executive Management programs at MIT and Dartmouth business schools.

The probability that Bitcoin evolve as a Black Swan is non zero! This speakerevent will show you why.
Description of event:
What have the breakdown of the Sovietunion, the invention of penicillin and the spread of the internet in common? All of them are Black Swans, events which had a large impact but only a few have predicted them beforehand. This event aims to show that Bitcoin might also be a Black Swan.
The aim of this event is that people understand how Bitcoin fundamentally works and why it can be really successful. There will be a presentation about Bitcoin, afterwards you can ask all the questions which you ever had about Bitcoin in a Q&A session. After the Q&A session there will be some time for networking.
Bitcoin is a multidisciplinary invention, so the presentation will cover history of money, game theory, the core technologies of Bitcoin and monetary theory. Widespread myths about Bitcoin for example that Bitcoin mining is a waste of energy will be analyzed and unveiled. It will also be explained why Bitcoin probably will be more successful than all the altcoins.
If you are planning to come, please register on eventbrite.
