About The Session:
Container technologies are rapidly becoming the de-facto way to deploy cloud applications, of which an enormous amount are written for the JVM. Oracle's Java teams have committed to making Java a good citizen in the world of containers. This talk will cover some of the new (and old) tools and techniques for reducing container size, for improving startup time and sharing of data between JVMs, and the recent work that has gone into interacting with container resource limitations.
About The Speaker:
Matthew Gilliard is a (somewhat) functional programmer who enjoys all kinds of language nerdery. He currently works at Oracle on the Fn Project, an open-source serverless compute platform. Helping to make Java in the cloud as good as it can be. Past lives include OpenStacking, teaching English to highschoolers and a whole lot of Clojure and Java.

About The Session:
With Kubernetes becoming the de facto (vs. OpenShift, EKS, PKS, GCE, etc.) abstraction for cloud providers, we need to get ready and step up our game to make sure that we are designing with these environments in mind. This presentation will cover the challenges, lessons learned and conclusions from a Java Open Source project while adopting these technologies. This session is not an introduction to Kubernetes, quite the opposite, it will highlight why Kubernetes is great, but not a magic silver bullet that will solve all your problems. You need to be ready to make some hard choices.
About The Speakers:
Mauricio Salatino (www.salaboy.com) is currently the Activiti Cloud OSS (www.activiti.org) Tech Leader working at Alfresco. Previously Mauricio worked for Red Hat / JBoss in the Drools & jBPM projects, where he author 4 books about these projects. With more than 10 years of experience in Java and in the Business Automation field Mauricio is pushing forward to modernise a very conservative industry by following the Open Source Way.
Ryan Dawson is a core member of the Activiti team at Alfresco (www.activiti.org), helping to drive forward the Activiti open source project. He has spent 10 years working in Java Development scene in London across a variety of industries.
