WordPress Meetups are for the benefit of the WordPress community as a whole, not specific businesses or individuals. All actions taken as an event organizer are with the best interest of the community in mind.
Membership in the local meetup group is open to all who wish to join, regardless of ability, skill, financial status or any other criteria.
Meetups are volunteer-run with volunteer speakers. In cases where a modest attendance fee might be necessary, this fee should only cover the costs of the meetup and shouldn’t be used to pay speakers or organizers.
Meetup groups allow events to be organized by any reliable/trusted member of the community.
Meetups are welcoming places where everyone works to foster an accepting environment which is free of discrimination, incitement to violence, promotion of hate, and general oaf-like behavior.
We have plenty of ideas about all the fab stuff we could do at our new Glasgow Wordpress meetup... But we would also love to hear what you would like it to be about.
Everyone's welcome regardless of experience. We'll always do our best to hold our events at accessible venues and maintain entry free of charge.
Come along and become part of the growing community!
We'll be posting more information about each particular event as time goes by...
What it takes to build a website. Focus: web designer's role.
Description changed:
Traditionally, the 3 roles involved in getting a website up and running have been very separate and well-defined. There is the website owner, the web designer and the backend developer. And although normally there is enough communication between them to get the job done, sometimes there is also a fair bit of misunderstanding.
This event will be the first of a series of three, where we will focus on each of the roles in turn, starting with that of web designer and frontend developer.
We are currently working to bring you a couple of lightning talks plus a roundtable discussion covering points such as:
• What makes a good theme or template?
• What would you add to the list of must-have best practices of web design?
• Custom vs template.
• Frameworks vs. child theme.
• Which criteria do you use to decide when to use either?
• From the web design point of view, is the customer always right?
If you are a frontend developer, come along to share your thought processes and compare them with others.
If you are a website owner or backend developer, come along to find out what makes a web designer tick!
If you would be interested in giving one of the lightning talks, please get in touch on hello@wpglasgow.org
