Hot on the heels of our re:Invent re:Cap AWS Sheffield is back this April. Join us for our meet up where we'll be kindly hosted by Cortex (www.cortexreply.com) @ electric works (www.electric-works.net). We've got 2 fantastic speakers, a great venue, food & drink and the opportunity to meet & network into the evening.
Our first speaker of the evening is Maddie Albu, Data Scientist at PEP Health. In her talk Scaling Up AWS Infrastructure: From a Laptop to Nationwide Web Scraping of US Healthcare Online Reviews she'll take us through how PEP Health's journey in capturing patient experience across the United States has evolved into a robust, cloud-based infrastructure powered by AWS. By leveraging scalable services like ECS, Lambda, and Step Functions, PEP Health now efficiently scrapes, processes, and analyzes online healthcare reviews at a nationwide scale. This transformation enables real-time insights into patient feedback, empowering healthcare providers and policymakers understand and improve the quality of care at a national scale..
Second up we have James Eastham, Serverless Developer Advocate at Datadog with his talk Serverless or containers; Who cares pick both! A common consideration when building modern applications is whether to 'go serverless' and build with FaaS services like AWS Lambda or Azure Functions. Or whether you should build with containers and run them using services like Amazon ECS, Azure Container Apps or even Kubernetes. During this talk, you will understand the key differences between functions and container-based workloads and, importantly, how to run them in a serverless way.
By the end of the talk, you will have a clear set of heuristics for when to choose containers and when to choose FaaS. As well as best practices for running both in production...
Our event is free and inclusive; we welcome people of all backgrounds and experience levels to join. If you require any accommodations please reach out and we will do what we can.
