An extra-special session that will bring our recent themes, with Peruvian artist Paola Torres Núñez del Prado introducing us to Andean informatics through textiles and sound. Paola is an e-textile and sound artist, who integrates electronic sensors into their handmade textiles, including in Khipu (ancient Andean practice of recording data in knotted structures) as well as weaving.
Paola will talk us through some of her works, with some focus on patterns that run through Andean culture. She’ll bring some of her e-textiles and share a live performance with us.
A meetup for people interested in ‘algorithmic patterns’, in live coding and other creative practices.
Description changed:
For this second meet we’ll take a beginner-friendly look at Strudel (https://strudel.tidalcycles.org), the free/open source live coding environment for live coding and algorithmic music in the web browser. The session will be lead by Alex McLean, the instigator of the project.
Please bring a laptop, tablet or similar device to get hands-on with Strudel. It should run on just about anything without any fuss, but let Alex (alex@slab.org) know if you have problems!
We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, religion (or lack thereof), or technology choices. For this first meet we’ll take a beginner-friendly look at TidalCycles (https://tidalcycles.org/), the free/open source live coding environment for live coding and algorithmic music, and in particular the newly released version 1.9. The session will be lead by Alex McLean, the instigator of the TidalCycles project.
Feel free to bring a laptop to get hands-on with TidalCycles. Please try to install TidalCycles in advance, but help will be on hand if you have problems getting it going!
We’ll also take a quick look at Strudel (https://strudel.tidalcycles.org/), a port of TidalCycles for the web browser.
Participation is free, but please sign up so we know how many to expect, and can let you know of any last-minute changes!
