We have a new venue! We also have two regular talks and one lightning talk.
Regular talks (10-30 minutes)
• Krešimir Linke, Quality Assurance Manager at Repsly Inc: Test automation of push notifications for Ranorex application
Kresimir will show how has Repsly QA team automated tests of push notifications between web and mobile applications using Ranorex solution. The messaging part of Repsly allows users of Repsly Web application (sort of managers) and mobile applications users (sort of field representatives) to communicate with each other using messages/comments in a chat form. Automation tests deal with business rules (who must receive and must not receive notifications/messages), technical side of the story (does it work?) and uses real devices in action (Web, iPhone, Android).
Kresimir has 6+ years of experience in manual and automation testing as well as in other 'startup related' areas of work. He has studied History of Art and Information science in hope to work one day in some Art facility, or at least become professional percussionist with his band, but was trapped in a Startup company and works there ever since. A great passion for testing and exceptional customer experience drives him forward.
• Ana Prpic, Quality Assurance Analyst at East Coast Product: Why We Love WebdriverIO and You Should Too
Ana will be discussing how she uses WebdriverIO and some practical tips on how to get started yourself. WebdriverIO is a simple tool for writing automated checks. Utilizing JavaScript, WebdriverIO allows you to take control of a browser or a mobile app with just a few lines of code. Ana will show some real life examples on how East Coast Product has been using WebdriverIO to ensure quality for their clients.
Ana received her bachelors in physics and masters in computational physics before realizing that her true love was for tech and specifically QA. Since then, Ana taught herself how to code, built up several years of QA experience, and now leads the QA team at Split and Boston based digital product agency, East Coast Product. When she’s not reading about some new QA tool, you can often find Ana cycling around Split, watching Star Trek, or playing PC games. If you are interested in learning more about East Coast Product and Ana, head over to her official employee spotlight.

What's a Bug Bash?
A bug bash is where we get together and run a timeboxed testing session of a real live application for a charity to discover how the application works and feedback your findings as test reports and bug reports. This will be a chance for students to try out everything they've learnt over the past 12 sessions in a safe environment with the support of our awesome mentors.
And that's not all, there will be prizes! We will be testing one of ZSL London Zoo's applications and in return, they will be giving us free tickets to award students for excelling in certain topics such as 'best bug raised', 'best test report', 'best question asked', etc. we'll also have prizes from our sponsors and Ministry of Testing to give away too.
So come along, improve your testing skills and maybe win a prize or two on the way. It's going to be fun!

For the final meetup of the year, we have Simon Knight aka @sjpknight with his talk / interactive workshop
The Testing Hero's Journey
in which we hear about methodology(ies) for identifying and implementing personal improvements (or process improvements) that allows testers to improve their testing and accelerate their testing career...
Please note, we meet in the bar area 18:15 onward for a prompt 19:00 start.
There will be food and drink (or two) courtesy our kind sponsors - Woodrow Mercer; Plenty of parking is also available onsite - also complimentary thanks to our hosts Ramada Solihull!
It's the 8th of the month and the last Meetup for this year!
This will be an informal event for us all to get together, have some drinks and talk about testing on the run-up to Christmas. We can recap this years (testing) events and the Meetup topics, enjoy the company of fellow testers in Cambridge and chat about anything testing that's on your mind (or anything else, really). It's a great chance for everyone to get to socialize within the testing community - I'll be looking forward to it!
If anybody would be happy to sponsor drinks please get in touch!

CovTestersMeetup: Web Application Security- A Hands on Testing Challenge
Description changed:
Continuing our theme on Security Testing, this month we have Dan Billing aka @TheTestDoctor
Please note, we meet in the bar area 18:15 onward for a prompt 19:00 start.

Web Application Security - A Hands on Testing Challenge
We know that application security is important. We have to protect our customers’ data and our employers’ data while keeping our systems up and running. But do we have the skills and knowledge to meet that challenge?
During this training, we will begin to explore some of the concepts, skills, and techniques of security testing by working with a vulnerable web application. Through practical activities and hands-on learning, we will discover the key security issues that affect web applications today.
Testers will learn skills to identify software vulnerabilities and understand common threats and risks that occur in web-applications. We will also examine some of the tools and utilities that can enhance and extend security testing efforts. Let’s look at the essential steps to build and execute your own security testing strategies. Let’s examine how learning and mentoring can aid in the development of strategies. You can and should build up your own skills with integrated security testing. This will ensure ongoing relevance of your role in a security context, and the success of your organisations.
Building upon personal experience of integrating security testing into an existing organisation, incorporating DevOps, continuous delivery and integration, this training will highlight and discuss the reflections of learning from hackers, recent breaches and the socio-economic, political and technical impact upon software development organisations.
Attendees will take away a set of advice and techniques to incorporate and enable security testing into their day to day work, answering some of the questions that may arise around scope, skills, tools, models and learning.
Technical requirements:
This is a practical training, so all attendees will require a laptop, and the ability to install and run the application under test, as well as some open source tools that will be useful during the session. Installation instructions and a tool list will be sent before the training, and pre-installation is highly recommended for a smooth training experience.
Prior experience in security testing web applications is not necessary; however, attendees will need to be comfortable testing web applications and using modern web-browsers (i.e. Firefox, Chrome, Safari).
Installation instructions are located at Github.com/dhatanian/ticketmagpie
Using the supplied Docker image is the quickest/easiest method.
We're very happy to have a hands-on workshop on note taking, run by Neil Younger and Karo Stoltzenburg.
In the workshop you will get some basic background on note taking, an introduction to popular note taking techniques and examples on how those can help you with your testing and reporting challenges. This will be followed by a hands-on testing session using specific note taking approaches of your choice. We'll wrap the evening up with a debrief session and discussion.
We'll have some laptops available for the hands-on session, but if you can, please bring your own!
There will also be drinks and snacks and a chance to socialize with fellow testers in Cambridge.
Many thanks to DisplayLink for hosting and sponsoring the event!
What: Take Note of Note Taking (Workshop)
The evening will be split into parts:
* We'll start giving some background on note taking, outlining motivation and introducing some note taking techniques and standard formats (SBTM, Cornell method, Mind Maps, Rapid Reporter, ...). This can give you an idea on how honing your note taking skills can help you as a tester to report in a more focused way, keep track of your progress and safe time doing so.
* In the second part of the Meetup we'll do a hands-on testing mission. Choose between any of the note taking methods introduced and apply them to the testing mission given. Try a specific note taking approach in order to find out whether it fits your needs and the needs of the task at hand.
* We'll debrief at the end to review our findings - what were the pros and cons of any of the used note taking methods? Were they easy to use, appropriate for the context, do we see benefit in using those?
* If time allows we will wrap the session up by zooming into a recent example of consolidating SBTM testing session notes at DisplayLink.
Who: Neil Younger, Karo Stoltzenburg
Neil has worked as a tester for over 15 years in the software industry including banking, consumer products, and security. He has worked within groups of testers, as an individual project team tester, and has also built and lead software test teams. Currently he is exploring his new roles of test manager and product owner for automation at Displaylink.
Karo has been a tester for about seven years, working on E-commerce platforms, web applications and supply chain management solutions for chemical companies. After being the sole tester in the company for most of her career, she relocated a couple years ago to the UK for the opportunity to join the lovely tester team at Linguamatics. She also runs the evening Software Tester Club Meetups in Cambridge - give here a shout (or send here a note ;)) if you'd be interested in any particular topics or speakers!
