Software Testing Club: Cambridge Meetup - Take Note of Note Taking (Workshop)

We're very happy to have a hands-on workshop on note taking, run by Neil Younger and Karo Stoltzenburg.

In the workshop you will get some basic background on note taking, an introduction to popular note taking techniques and examples on how those can help you with your testing and reporting challenges. This will be followed by a hands-on testing session using specific note taking approaches of your choice. We'll wrap the evening up with a debrief session and discussion.

We'll have some laptops available for the hands-on session, but if you can, please bring your own!

There will also be drinks and snacks and a chance to socialize with fellow testers in Cambridge.

Many thanks to DisplayLink for hosting and sponsoring the event!

What: Take Note of Note Taking (Workshop)

The evening will be split into parts:

* We'll start giving some background on note taking, outlining motivation and introducing some note taking techniques and standard formats (SBTM, Cornell method, Mind Maps, Rapid Reporter, ...). This can give you an idea on how honing your note taking skills can help you as a tester to report in a more focused way, keep track of your progress and safe time doing so.

* In the second part of the Meetup we'll do a hands-on testing mission. Choose between any of the note taking methods introduced and apply them to the testing mission given. Try a specific note taking approach in order to find out whether it fits your needs and the needs of the task at hand.

* We'll debrief at the end to review our findings - what were the pros and cons of any of the used note taking methods? Were they easy to use, appropriate for the context, do we see benefit in using those?

* If time allows we will wrap the session up by zooming into a recent example of consolidating SBTM testing session notes at DisplayLink.
