We're back.
This month it's Back to Basics -- if only to remind myself what buttons to press and things to say.
We shall be online, talking about WP (of course) and what changes have been made over the summer.
Has anything caught your eye?
Has anything confused you?
Enlightened you?
Let's talk WordPress and remind ourselves that the knowledge you have is different from everyone else's -- so let's share and learn together.
It's not a selling forum. It's an opportunity to share ideas/snippets/tips with other WP users. Looking forward to greeting new faces and old friends.
To join us, please RSVP to this event. Then the URL for the Zoom call will be visible to you. (It's not there just now because the Zoom hasn't been set up yet... I'll email you when it is)

Hello!
It's been a while.
A monthlong break became somewhat longer. My apologies. Stuff happens.

Hello!
It's been a while.
A monthlong break became somewhat longer. My apologies. Stuff happens.
When you are building a site there are lots (and lots) of things you have to consider. One area that often gets left behind is that of accessibility.
Graham Armfield is an acknowledged authority on making websites accessibility to everyone.
So we are fortunate to have him available to us as a speaker for this MeetUp.
Graham will be identifying some of the useful tools available to you which will help you make your site accessible to all. Some of these are plug-ins but a lot of these are behaviours and processes that you can adopt to increase your audience size, simply by making it easier to read and navigate.
Join us for an online, Zoom-based MeetUp.
Hosted once again by 34SP, the UK-based hosting company.
A return to the tried and trusted 'workshop' format this month. At the moment this is planned as an online event.
But who knows?!
During this MeetUp we will endeavour to answer your WP questions and, if we can't do that, we shall hopefully point you in the direction of someone who can.
Please RSVP if you are interested in attending. The Zoom Link is provided to those who RSVP. We look forward to meeting you online.

The Glasgow WP MeetUp is grateful to 34SP for hosting its online MeetUps. 34SP is a UK-based hosting company.
"Core Web Vitals" are definitely going to be a 'thing' in 2021.
In May 2021 Google will be adding extra metrics to how it evaluates websites in the future.
An online presentation by Kayleigh Thorpe of 34SP.
If you are interested in how you can help nudge your site up the Google rankings then this talk will be of great help to you.
More details will follow...

Please RSVP in order to receive the Zoom Link details for this MeetUp.

Our thanks to 34SP for hosting this MeetUp.
April has arrived and it's our first talk of the year. Still online of course. But it means you can pay close attention to the Shared Screen and pick up some hints and tips for making good use of the WordPress Block Editor.
The Block Editor (Gutenberg) has had a very mixed press since it's introduction. Anyone who has been a WP user for more than two years will have their own views on the merits (or not) of WordPress's core editor. But it's here to stay. And for those who are relatively new to WP... it's just the editor!
++++++++++++++++++++
Jeremy Davis is the current Lead Organiser of the Glasgow WP MeetUp and, having made more use of the Block Editor recently, has collated a few useful pointers and guidelines to make it more of a help than a hindrance.
This will be a presentation of 30-40 minutes with a Q&A discussion to follow. "I'm not a Gutenberg 'expert' so I expect there are many other tips that Glasgow members can share on the night"
+++++++++++++++++++++
Please RSVP if you are aiming to attend. The Zoom link will only be visible to those who RSVP. (The link isn't there yet.... it will be made available as soon as it has been set up in Zoom).

We are grateful to 34SP for hosting the MeetUp. Visit 34SP.com for hosting and domain name options.
It's 2021 and GlasgoWapuu is back.
And so is the MeetUp. Yes, we skipped January but, in response to your requests, we are moving the regular MeetUps to earlier in the month.
And this month we are celebrating the first anniversary of the Glasgow WordCamp, held on February 8th last year. (Hmm. Quite a lot has happened since those giddy, carefree days hasn't it?).
So yes, we'll be online again and yes, it'll be a general WP-related chat. But please have a think back to last year and bring your positive reminiscences of last year's event.
When we said we could put on a WordCamp in only 12 weeks they said we were crazy. They were right -- but we did it anyway!
Mwahahahahaha!
And of course we ended up being the the only UK WordCamp of 2020.
And one of only 12 held worldwide before everything went silly.
It won't be all nostalgia... but sometimes it's nice to wallow.
Hope to see you there.
A blether. A goss. A chinwag. A natter. Chew the fat. Shoot the breeze.
This month we're having a general discussion. And of course it might be a little bit Christmassy.
I know it's Christmas week but hopefully you can make time to join us for a seasonal WP natter. No agenda but I'm sure we can find something WordPress and Christmassy to talk about.
Our MeetUp supporter, 34SP will be hosting again.
PLEASE NOTE: you will only see the URL/link for the Zoom call if you register/sign-up (RSVP) for this MeetUp. Please do that so that we have some idea of who is going to show up. Thanks.
Tonight will be just a general discussion and I hope some new faces will come along and provide some questions... it's good to revisit the basics and refresh some of the fundamental WordPress knowledge.
This month, please let us know if you have a specific subject you'd like to talk to someone about.
Please be prompt for a 6:30pm if you can.
I’m looking forward to seeing you there.

And we are back to a 'proper' length MeetUp this time because I have managed to get myself organised and 34SP will be hosting a 'proper' Zoom call this time.

One item we may wish to discuss is the imminent change that will affect FB & Instagram embeds. I haven't looked at this yet myself... so we are all in a position to learn!!
This month, please let us know if you have a specific subject you'd like to talk to someone about.
Please be prompt for a 6:30pm if you can.
I’m looking forward to seeing you there.
OK so the 4th Tuesday of September has crept up on me and (nearly) caught me unawares. Here is a VERY late notice for a MeetUp.
I know it's short notice but I hope you can come along.
Tonight will be just a general discussion and I hope some new faces will come along and provide some questions... it's good to revisit the basics and refresh some of the fundamental WordPress knowledge.
Please note that Zoom will probably throw us off after 40 minutes or so but we should be able to log straight back in a carry on. If not I will put another Zoom kink into the notifications section (below) and we can carry on from there.
This month, please let us know if you have a specific subject you'd like to talk to someone about.
Please be prompt for a 6:30pm if you can.
I’m looking forward to seeing you there.
We don't yet have a speaker organised... so we are open to suggestions!
But at least there's a marker in your diary for August 25th.
For now this remains an online group but I hope you agree that the Zoom call(s) have worked well.
Our grateful thanks again to 34SP.com for hosting these events and to Laura Seaton for controlling the buttons.
The link for the Zoom call will be added nearer the day.
Hopefully by then we'll have a speaker too.
(If not, we'll hold the MeetUp as a Q&A workshop and play it from there.
The return of Kayleigh!
As part of 34SP’s support team, Kayleigh has been asked ALL the questions about setting up a WordPress website.
Even some sensible ones!!
So this is a talk about how she goes about setting up a website — the Plugins she instals first, what she looks for in a Theme, the security steps she takes first.
This could be just be the nudge you need to finally get your website up and running. See you online.
Thank you for the positive feedback regarding our last MeetUp in May.
For that reason* we going to use the same format this month, i.e. a mutual help/workshop/Q&A type session with breakout rooms so that we can have some decent chats about WordPress and WordPress-related things.
We all meet up at the start and then break up into small groups of 3 or 4 or 5 so that it doesn't become a big bun-fight.
This month, please let us know if you have a specific subject you'd like to talk to someone about. If there are some common themes, we'll endeavour to put like-minded people together.
Here are some suggestions:
+ page builders (Elementor, Divi etc)
+ Gutenberg / Block Editor
+ basic suggestions for getting started -- installing WP, themes, plugins
+ favourite plugins
+ WooCommerce (and alternatives?)
I'm sure you will have some other suggestions.
Please be prompt for a 6:30pm start as it will be tricky to introduce latecomers to the breakout sessions.
I’m looking forward to seeing you there.
____________________________________________
* And not because we haven't got a speaker available. No. Not at all!
So this month we’re going to do our regular Workshop Meetup. But try it online.
Rather than make it a chaotic free-for-all, we will meet up and then split into ‘breakout rooms’ of 4 or 5 people. After ten minutes or so we’ll come back together and breakout again.
That way you’ll hopefully be able to talk through a WordPress issue you’re having or maybe ask about something in WP that you’ve never quite understood.
NO idea how (or if!) it’s going to work in practice but join us for the ride and let’s see what happens.
BTW each room will be hosted in order to keep it sensible and kind. And don’t worry if you don’t have a question... you might well have an answer that someone else is looking for.
Please be prompt for a 6:30pm start as it will be tricky to introduce latecomers to the breakout sessions.
I’m looking forward to seeing you there.
Glasgow WP MeetUp: Pop round Tim's virtual house for a cup of tea
Description changed:
Yes we're going to be online again.
This time you are all invited to take a tour of Tim Nash (WordPress Platform Lead at 34SP.com)'s personal site.
Find out what Plugins he uses, his Theme, workflow. From how he publishes a post to keeping things updated and fast. Tim will spill the beans over a virtual cup of tea on all the secrets to his site.
There should be plenty of time for questions.
Come on! You've spent lots of time looking over the shoulders of online celebs and journos to see what their houses are like... here's a chance to have a good ol' nose around Tim's website and to see how it's put together.
The online link will be published on the day for all those who RSVP. Come and join us. This is 'back to basics' WordPress so there is always lots to learn.
Yes we're going to be online again.
This time as part of the WP Anywhere initiative.
So please, make a note in your calendar/diary and we will provide further information once we have it.
(That's my polite way of saying that we haven't finalised a speaker yet but we are working on it!)
Watch this space.
Tonight, Derek York will provide some basic pointers in the use of CSS on your website.
Please note: this will start promptly at 6:30pm and we have only 40 minutes available (because we've got the basic Zoom subscription)
Full URL is in the 'Happening Online' Box.
(It's usually on the right of the page --> )

Meeting ID: 554 116 125
Password: 078551
Sit back, relax and contribute.
(You'll have to provide your own sandwiches though!)
As we feared, the latest advice regarding social gatherings means that a face-to-face MeetUp is currently not an option.
We ARE trying to arrange a virtual MeetUp so please keep an eye out as we will let you know when we have something organised.
Those nice people at 34SP are working with various MeetUps around the country to facilitate a merged MeetUp. We don't know the format or time(s) yet but we'll let you know.
WP Glasgow Doors open at 6pm.
We have not been able to arrange a speaker this month.
Assuming that we are allowed to meet (and that information us changing all the time, obviously) the aim is to have a 'Show and Tell' session.
This is an opportunity to show us a WordPress issue you have or a WordPress problem you have solved.
Pretty informal and laid back. Bring your laptop and your questions and we'll see what transpires.
Sandwiches will be available.
Doors open at 6pm. Speaker from 6:30. The speaker has yet to be confirmed. We'll let you know as soon as we can.
Sandwiches will be available.

This month’s workshop will begin with a 10 minute ‘lightning’ talk on the subject of WordCamps. Hmm. I wonder why 🤔😉
Bring your laptop and your WordPress questions... someone will either have the answer for you or know someone else who does.
And you may have a solution for somebody else! We're all learning so don't think that everyone else knows more. You may have just the expertise that someone is looking for.
THIS SESSION IS AIMED AT WP USERS OF ALL LEVELS OF EXPERTISE.
Open your laptops and open your minds. If you go away from this session with one nugget of info you did not have before then it's been worthwhile. That nugget could be the thing that transforms your website!
Doors open at 6pm for our workshop to start at 6:30pm.

Page Builders allow non-developers to create unique and attractive layouts for most WordPress websites.
Claudia Kirkwood of SuperSimpleWebsites has been using Page Builders for several years, particularly BeaverBuilder and will illustrate the pros and cons of using them. She will also compare their functionality with the WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg) and how they will fare in the future.
If you are using (or thinking of using) Page Builders for your website, then this is the talk for you.
We look forward to seeing you here.
