This is our monthly informal gathering - just turn up, grab a drink, take a seat and start talking UX! You'll find us upstairs at The Outhouse (off the top of Broughton St.) - take the stairs to the right of the bar as you enter the venue.
Each month we'll have a short talk followed by some discussion around the things that interest you most. Add your ideas to our sketchbook - http://bit.ly/2khJxvg

6.30pm - Intro & community announcements
7pm - UX and 'Defining the Damn Thing' (Chris Rourke, Founder & CEO of Uservision)
Can you define what User Experience means clearly, concisely and accurately to someone who doesn’t know what it is?
People seem increasingly keen to use the terms User Experience and UX in their work conversations. Does that mean there is a strong collective understanding about the meaning of UX and any differences with similar terms such as usability, customer experience, interaction design or service design? Do we actually need a formal definition of UX with clear parameters, or is it better to assume a “I know it when I see it” approach like that famously applied for obscene materials? Are different definitions appropriate depending on who you’re talking to?
In this talk Chris will lead group exercises around defining UX and discuss some common informal and formal definitions of UX and other related terms. Is there a consensus on the definitions? Come along, contribute and find out.
