PHP Application Patterns: A Comparison of Interfaces, Traits, Abstractions and Base Classes

In this talk I will compare the several ways to (de)compose code using PHP 7, including Interfaces, Abstract base classes, inheritance and Traits. Presuming some familiarity with the syntax, I will looking primarily at the appropriate ways to use these structures to achieve various application goals, some of their advantages and disadvantages, and how techniques such as dependency injection build on them. This will be a personal and opinionated view of the topic and a discussion/Q&A after the talk is expected.

We're meeting at 6:30pm for a 7:00pm start. Pizzas and drinks provided by local digital design and technology agency Studio 24.

Please note a new sign-in process in place meaning that all event attendees need to register on arrival for Health and Safety reasons. There will be 5 iPads on site to speed up the process.

Please note, although PHP Cambridge will make every endeavour to inform you prior to attending, there is a small chance that you may be photographed or filmed by staff of the Bradfield Centre. If this is the case then these images would likely be (but not limited to) used for online publicity, social media or press releases. By attending this meetup you will be granting full rights for the Bradfield Centre to use any images or videos to help achieve The Bradfield Centre's aims.

Note: There 20 parking spaces available at the centre for those that drive. This is usually enough, but if you get stuck please do contact the management team for help.
