Title: Two philosophers walk into a bar
Synopsis: In 2015 I moved from Australia to start a PhD in philosophy at The University of Edinburgh. By 2017 I had withdrawn and did not have much of a life plan beyond wanting to stay here in Edinburgh. It was then that a friend, also an ex-philosopher, began to talk to me about programming. Now I am working as a backend developer, learning data engineering on the job, and studying part-time for a Data Science Masters. I would like to talk about some of the experiences that gave me the confidence to make those decisions for myself and how I feel about the transitions I've made.

Title: From Picasso to Python: The bridge between the creative and the technical
Synopsis: Trained in Art History and Psychology, I worked for nearly 10 years in the art world, both for commercial and non-profit ventures. In each position in the arts, I found I gravitated more and more into positions that acted as a technical liaison, guiding super creative visions for individuals who think big, into concrete and buildable digital journeys or products - ones that I would either build and style myself or work with developers to build. I currently work in Service / User Experience Design, which melds the creative, the psychological and the technical, attempting to walk the line between dreaming big and building incrementally. I'd like to open up discussion about the best ways to communicate coding issues to non-technical audiences.
