Westminster Media Forum: Arts and culture in England: funding, participation and technology

THIS EVENT IS CPD CERTIFIED

This timely seminar will consider the future for arts and culture in England, with a focus on funding, participation and technology.

It is timed to consider key themes emerging from Arts Council England’s consultation on their strategy for the next ten years - with an initial report expected in the Summer and a further formal consultation to follow in the Autumn.

Delegates will examine issues around access to funding - discussing what further action might be taken to address increased competition for public support, reduce reliance on public resources, diversify revenue streams and business models, attract private investment, and exploit IP and assets.

The seminar will also provide an opportunity to consider what more might be done to resource culture more effectively and maximise its value, drawing on responses to the recently launched Cultural Cities Enquiry.

Attendees will assess priorities for expanding the socio-economic contribution of culture, and how the challenges for widening participation across England might be addressed - focusing on regional imbalances, collaboration with other sectors, the development of local partnerships, and issues around relevance and engagement.

Further sessions will explore how the sector is adapting to, and utilising, new technologies - particularly in terms of skills, investment and data - and consider next steps for driving innovation - looking at the development of next generation audiences and practitioners, challenges for fostering a culture of experimentation and collaboration, and opportunities for monetisation.
