Ministry of Testing - Sheffield (ShefTest): ShefTest Security Special

We've got a couple of great speakers lined up and an exciting new venue for this month too. With a proper projector and screen to boot!

Join us at the Electric Works for an evening of security, skills and psychology. Thanks to Sky Bet Sheffield for providing the room and the beers.

There's a slightly earlier than usual start of 6pm with talks kicking off at 6:30. We're anticipating a lot of Q&A on this subject too, so we'll almost certainly disband to a local public house afterwards to continue the chat.

First up, Scott Storey with 'How to include security in your testing'.

Security is hard, or at least everyone in security would like you to believe that. It’s surrounded in mystery and a seemingly impenetrable area for anybody other than “security professionals” to do.

I made the move from test to security and in reality, lots of it is the same.

This talk will take you through how I made the switch and what tools and techniques testers can bring in to begin including security testing in their work and where to go for more information.

Following that, Steve Bates will be discussing 'The Psychological Aspects of Security'.

Whilst it is often regarded as a technical role, the often overlooked aspects of the human psyche form an important part of a Red Teamers tooling.

Beginning with the OSINT phase, I will discuss how you can use common and easily acquired information from social media to exploit people's trusting nature using phishing attacks. We will cover why certain phishing attacks are more successful than others, and why my Malteasers will beat your mimecast implementation.

I will also branch into the often forgotten Red Team anxiety, that feeling you get when you're about to make your move, and how this plays into your favour as a Red Teamer.

I look forward to seeing you all there, and please come armed with questions! Not just around the talk, I'm happy to answer questions no matter how basic they may seem.
