Presentation 1 - "Data and Standards: Oh, what's occurin'?’

The talk will describe the benefits of standards for those working in data-intensive industries and describe recent and ongoing activities in the EC and W3C relating to data standards.

Peter Winstanley is a data and standards specialist with experience covering more than 25 years in both government and private sector operations. Peter is a member of the UK Government Data Standards Panel and Glasgow University School of Computing Science Industrial Advisory Board and is a Chartered Fellow of the British Computer Society. He has contributed to the development of European Community and W3C standards and recommendations on semantic interoperability and works within local and central government organisations in Scotland and elsewhere to help these organisations improve their data descriptions and interoperability. Peter works routinely with smart data structures such as XML and RDF to develop and deliver high impact, low maintenance solutions.

Sam is a Biomedical Engineer at Snap40 who has 5+ years experience in the Medical Industry. Starting from designing non-invasive cardiology monitors he has most recently moved to Snap40 where he is working on multivariate non-invasive monitoring moving into early warning sign detection and predictive analytics. Sam has a background in on device algorithm development, cardiology and regulatory compliance.
