Scotland Data Science & Technology MeetUp: New Aberdeen Data Meet-up - Hosted by ODI Aberdeen

We are extremely grateful to both MBN Solutions and DataLab for supporting this new venture.

Our first meet-up will feature two highly relevant and informative talks:

1. Creating a data-influenced culture in your organisation - by Inez Hogarth

2. Open Data, Distributed Ledgers, and the Oil and Gas Industry – exploring the intersection of blockchain technology with analytics and open data, and their implications for Oil and Gas - by Bob Clint and Amy Watson

Inez Hogarth, (www.linkedin.com ) is Data Scientist at Broker Insights. She has over 10 years’ experience working with data and analytics in the fields of information technology, health and service industries. Having graduated in theoretical physics before moving into applied statistics, she is a specialist at communicating complex concepts in easy to understand ways with actionable results. This experience is demonstrated through her senior positions at DC Thomson and brightsolid where her data analysis positively impacted business strategy. Inez recently joined a insurance tech startup, sourcing and enriching data from brokers. She also runs her own data consultancy business helping companies embrace data influenced cultures that deliver long term value to organisations of all sizes and industries.

Bob Clint, (www.linkedin.com ), is CTO and Data Protection Officer for Spiritus Development Ltd, an analytics and blockchain software firm. His colleague Amy Watson, is a Business Analyst there. Bob has spent three decades building analytics solutions for Fortune 50 firms. Amy has 8+ years of experience across Oil and Gas and Utilities, with in-depth knowledge of hydrocarbon accounting, deferment management and production allocation.

We'll have the usual meet-up staples: pizza and beer.

In future months we will alternate between speaker-events, and non-speaker ones. We’re going to be building a community around:
◾Data science, machine learning and AI,
◾open data
◾business intelligence
◾research and practical applications
◾Making a social impact with data
◾Big data, and
◾Specialist data fields – medicine, oil and gas, ecology etc

We’ve already committed as a group to help make Open Data in Aberdeen a reality, and to demonstrate not only how to do it, but also how to use it to make a difference.
