Cryptoparties are a great way for anyone to learn how to install and use tools to help secure their online communications.
Find out more information about the meeting here: https://forum.cryptopartynewcastle.org/t/next-cryptoparty-12-november-2016/30
Our next event will be taking place:
1:30PM to 3:30PM on Saturday 12 November 2016
at Newcastle City Library!
Location
Newcastle City Library is located in the Charles Avison Building on Newbridge Street in Newcastle upon Tyne. You can find a map here.
As with our previous party, we will be in the former-Crèche room on Level 2 of the library.
Event Topics
Our event topics are subject to change, depending on volunteer availability, but they are likely to include:
Tor Browser2 and TAILS4
Signal Private Messenger1
Full Disk Encryption1
Email Encryption with PGP
Password Managers (such as KeePass1)
Attending
You don't need to register to attend. Please feel free to turn up and have a browse around. At the event, we will organise volunteers into a series of informal tables, each covering a different topic relevant to the CryptoParty ethos. Attendees can move between tables they are interested in, learn a variety of technologies, and hopefully have a fun time!
We would recommend bringing:
A laptop (we can show you how to install and configure the Tor Browser, and encrypt your data)
An empty USB drive (if you want to learn how to use TAILS)
A notepad/pen (always useful)
Any questions you may have about privacy or crypto. We will try our best to answer them!
Volunteering
If you know a bit about some of the topics above, or feel like there's a topic missing which we could cover at the event, please let us know in this thread. We would greatly appreciate any help!
If you feel like you might be able to help out in other ways (advertising the group, organising meetings etc.) then please don't hesitate to comment either. You don't have to be a tech expert! We are here to help everyone as much as we can!
