Edinburgh UX talk: Dealing with (ir)responsibility for accessibility in UX

We know accessibility’s a critical part of good UX. But often, it seems to end up as the responsibility of whoever cares most about it, or whoever has to make changes to code following an accessibility audit. I’ll discuss how accessibility is a shared responsibility, and how making sure that responsibility and authority for accessibility can be effectively managed across a project or product team. I’ll also offer some tactics you can apply to change how accessibility is managed, so that it’s better integrated into activities throughout the project lifecycle.
About the Speaker
David Sloan is User Experience Research Lead for The Paciello Group (TPG), a digital accessibility consultancy. He has spent over 15 years as a researcher, educator and consultant, helping people to create great digital products and services that can be used by as many people as possible, regardless of disability. He joined TPG in 2013, having previously worked at the University of Dundee’s School of Computing, one of the world’s largest academic research groups investigating accessibility for older and disabled people.
