Court closures, legal aid cutbacks, geographic gaps in advice services and limited public legal information have adversely impacted how citizens in Scotland enforce their rights. We need a justice system that is transparent, fair, efficient and open to all.
Recognising the need for change, in 2014 the Scottish Government published The Digital Strategy for Justice in Scotland, acknowledging “our justice systems need to embrace digital technology – we need to look beyond traditional methods and transform how we think; how we engage and how we deliver services to citizens and users.”

Over the course of 48 hours, teams will collaborate to develop working technology prototypes or products.

What are the challenges?
There are several interesting challenges for you to get stuck into, which include: • Young people and legal information - designing new ways for young people to access legal information relevant to them. • Legal processes – using technology to help people navigate legal processes and documents, such as small claims actions

Access to justice professionals will present on each challenge at the start of the event, and they will be on hand afterwards to answer any questions and provide support to teams as they develop their products.

At the conclusion of the hack, teams will pitch their solutions to our illustrious panel of judges, which include: - Kenny Robertson - Head of Business Services (Legal) at Royal Bank of Scotland
Morna Simpson – Founder of Girl Geek Scotland; Business Analyst at Be-Positive Ltd
Business Development & Product Management at Nano-Lit Technologies
Gavin Neate – Founder & CEO of Neate Box Limited

We have some great speakers lined–up, including: -
Dennis R. Mortensen - Founder & CEO at x.ai
Peter Carayiannis - Partner at Deloitte Conduit Law LLP

In addition, there are workshops on:
