8.20 - 8.50 - “Everyone has a flutter on the Grand National:Scaling Account Services for the masses" Michael Maibaum
The Speakers
Phil Roffe
Phil is the Principal DevOps within our International team – SkyBet Italia. He is a DevOps enthusiast/evangelist focused on using lean and automation techniques to deliver repeatable end-to-end environments and deployments through to Production. Throughout his career he has moved from Java development towards System Administration, IT Management and Infrastructure Architecture and gained a real understanding of the challenges of working in the DevOps space.
His talk will discuss what it is like to be a start-up in an existing enterprise. The opportunity for innovation with an overview of some of the technology choices, as well as some of the challenges faced along the way
Saul Cozens
Saul is currently working as Business Analyst on Skybet’s Italian Casino Product. Previously he has been Technical Director and Consultant for a digital agency, a developer, an architect and is currently a contract/freelance Agile Coach. Having been around the block more than once he has a view (and many opinions) on how teams fit together to produce digital products.
His talk will look at the role a BA plays in a user focused Agile team (and also how it is not actually a role in a user focused Agile team!).
Mike Maibaum
Mike is the Chief Architect at Sky Betting and Gaming, he is responsible for defining the technology strategy of the business as it continues to grow. He is particularly interested in scalability, big data, event processing, continuous improvement, shipping stuff and building things people like to work on.
The Grand National is by far the biggest test of any UK bookies ability to scale their services. We spend a lot of time focussed on continuing to improve the capacity and resilience of our platform to meet the demands of our customers. This talk will describe some of the key activities leading up to the day, how we manage the day itself, things that went wrong, and ambitious future plans.
Sky Betting and Gaming will be supplying pizza and drinks for the evening, so register now for your free ticket. We look forward to seeing you on the night!
