This month we are going to be writing python plugins for Burritobot, the resident irc bot for #sheffgeeks on freenode. You can bring along your own ideas or team up with others on the day. Some starter ideas might be:
* "whatson": a plugin to list upcoming sheffield usergroup meetings
* "lastlink": a plugin to report the title of a given link (limiting download size)
* a plugin to determine the burrito obsession of users
* a (pretend?) text adventure game
* "fight: burrito vs bot": on given two things, separated by a vs, this plugin should find some means to choose the winning side (showing a score for each side)
These and other suggestions can be found at github.com. Feel free to add more in advance of the meeting
Our schedule for the evening will be something like:
17:45 - 18:15: Informally, a number of us may be at StreetFoodChef (goo.gl) for burritos ahead of the official start of the meetup. While these are not provided as part of attending, anyone is welcome to join us.
18:30 - The meetup officially starts.
18:30 - 18:45: A short description of how to get burritobot running and how to write plugins for it.
18:45 - 19:30: Coding session 1.
19:30 - 19:40: Break to discuss progress.
19:40 - 20:20: Coding session 2.
20:20 - 20:30: Show and tell.
20:30 - The meetup officially ends and we head to the Sheffield Tap to discuss the hilarious consequences of our programming.
To get the most out of the event, you should bring a laptop along.
This meetup is intended to be suitable for all levels of Python experience. While under 18s are welcome, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for obvious reasons. Note that the Sheffield Tap does not allow under 18s to enter.
Attending: 1 person.
