Description changed:
The Leeds Tester Gathering is a community event run for testers by testers. The format of the event provides the opportunity for networking 6-6:30pm, guest speakers between 6:30-8pm, then the chance for more networking (until late for those who want to) with a free bar thanks to sponsorship. The event will be held at the Lounge Bar & Grill on Merrion Street from 6pm.
We are pleased to announce our first guest speaker for June's event will be Ray Edgar of Ware2.
Ray's talk is entitled 'Batch Size: Keep it Lean!' and will be about the waste at all levels of software development related to batch sizes and queues we do not measure manage. Ray will be looking specifically at the effects of variability and the impact of batch size on feedback/quality and examining the types of waste that large batches incur at all points in the production pipeline. Essentially, looking to release more often, with better quality, and learn more in the process.
Our second guest speaker will be Alan Parkinson CEO and co-founder of Hindsight Software Ltd.
Alan's talk is 'Pull Requests and Testing can be friends'. The rise of Distributed Version Control Systems with good merge support has rehabilitated Feature Branches with many Open Source projects (OSS) receiving contributions as Pull Requests. Feature Branching is a technique where developers do all their changes separate from the mainline of code. Next they open a Pull Request to have their code merged into the mainline after being peer reviewed.
This OSS popularity for Pull requests with Git and Mercurial has been transferring to commercial projects, with many teams now adopting it internally. SCM is seen as a Developer coentric domain but testers have a lot to gain. This presentation will cover an introduction to Pull Requests and demonstrate how to identify key information that can be used to as inputs to different testing techniques.
