Laurie Nicholas - React Native is Actually Awesome Now

From the early days of Phone Gap and Xamarin, to modern options like Flutter, enabling teams to create native apps that can be distributed to both Android and iOS from a single codebase has long been the goal of many-a-framework.

React Native’s early promises in this space were big, but the developer experience and general ecosystem left much to be desired… At times many thought the community was dead, and Flutter had won.

Laurie Nicholas is a local techie and founder, who is here to tell you otherwise. With 10 years experience in cross-platform mobile apps, he’s recently co-founded PitchIn, a team sports app, using the latest iteration of React Native as the primary client-side framework.

In this highly practical, end-to-end talk, he’ll show you how you can use your existing front-end skillset to go from “Hello World”, to having a production-ready, truly native app in the stores… and for business and engineering leaders, show how you can use one team of web developers instead of requiring multiple specialised platform teams.
