Advances in digital technologies have brought big changes to human movement measurement. How do you navigate the myriad of products to get the functionality and cost you need for patient or athlete rehabilitation? How do you provide value to your clients and customers through best use of the data generated?

The Sports Engineering Research Group (SERG) is the world's largest academic group in sports engineering and an internationally renowned centre of excellence for research and knowledge transfer. The group's work is based on four research themes: applied computing, biomechanics, design engineering, and active travel. In each area, researchers develop fundamental knowledge and deliver applied solutions to enhance athletic performance, reduce injury, and promote physical activity. SERG provides support to a broad range of organisations in which human movement measurement, data management, and data visualisation plays a role in the delivery of their business.

In 2019, SERG evolved and formed the foundational pillar of the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC). The AWRC is a world‐leading £15.7 million research centre funded by the UK Department of Health, Sheffield Hallam University and with support by the European Social Fund. The AWRC co‐creates, evaluates, and exploits innovations in sport, physical activity and health with commercial and non‐commercial partners.

Through the Sheffield Innovation Programme (SIP), SERG can provide SMEs within the Sheffield City Region (as well as Chesterfield, N-E Derbyshire, Derbyshire Dales, Bassetlaw and Bolsover) with free, informed academic research and knowledge to help enhance their business.
