Climathon Sheffield 2020

How can we help Sheffield turn electrical waste into practical tools for people that need them?

BetterPoints are working with representatives from around the city of Sheffield including the University of Sheffield, Sheffield City Council, Aspire Community Enterprise and Sheffield Digital, with a wealth of knowledge and skills, to tackle the challenge of WEEE and its impact on the environment. The aim is to work as a multi-disciplinary group to explore the challenges of the digital divide and how the circular economy of WEEE could be part of the solution.

This challenge will be in the form of a virtual Climathon event on Friday 13th November 2020. In the lead up to the event there will be two webinars which will set the scene of the challenge. The first will set out the circular economy of e-waste and it's impact on the environment and the second will look at the issues and challenges faced by those residents in Sheffield who do not have access to technology, skills or confidence to get online, or who are unable to gain access to services due to having no connectivity.

The aim of Climathon is to raise climate awareness, disrupt the status quo, and rethink the places we live in and the future we want as citizens. We aim to make a real local difference in ensuring more e-waste is correctly and efficiently disposed of, recycled or reused in Sheffield by those who need it most.

Join us on the 13th November to build the foundations for long-lasting climate and social enterprise collaboration, allowing genuine conversations with like minded individuals and groups to make a real change in Sheffield and beyond.
