Cleanweb is a grassroots movement committed to solving the world’s most profound issues related to resource constraints through the application of information technology.
Come join us for our December talk night. We have two speakers so far and are looking for more!
The first Cleanweb Scotland Meetup of 2015 is here. We're pleased to say the group has grown to over 100 members and have the pleasure of having our first event of 2015 at the Scottish Parliament. The meetup will be hosted by Patrick Harvie MSP, co-convenor of the Scottish Green Party.
Important: Because this meeting will take place at the Scottish Parliament, please confirm as early as possible to ensure guest passes can be arranged, and please also arrive by 5.45pm to allow time to come through security. You will be met in the public entrance once you are through security: the correct entrance is on Horse Wynd, opposite the Palace of Holyroodhouse.
The event is going to be the usual talks and networking, albeit with a very arboreal theme to it. The talks for the evening include:
Wood Resources: Linking Niche Resources to Niche Users
Often there are small and private woodlands which when cut produce timber that is not viable to sell on commercial basis so is used as firewood or just left to rot, often the wood is good quality such as cherry, ash, beech etc.
There are also a lot of craft makers who are looking for small quantities of wood for turning, craving, furniture making etc. but cannot source the materials especially when they are urban based.
Philip and Andrew Sage will take us through their solution of using open government data to help solve the problem.
An Introduction to Carbomap
"Carbomap applies state-of-the-art science to the problem of measuring and mapping the world's forest carbon. Typically we use LiDAR instruments (like radar, but using lasers) carried on aircraft to conduct surveys. I will be talking about recent developments over the past 12 months including the use of drones, and new LiDAR technology. Discussing how these can improve on the ways that forests around the world are traditionally mapped." - Sam Fleming
Come chew the fat about cleanweb, tech, sustainability and have a drink or two at this informal meet-up.
Earlier this summer, the first ever European Cleanweb leaders summit took place in Barcelona. Off the back off the summit, there are further plans to connect cleanweb communities. Some of the proposed plans include; an annual global conference and a bi-annual meeting of some leaders in the European space.
To this end we are actively involved in developing an online presence, Cleanweb.eu. We'd love to hear from you if you'd like to participate. Help in the form of design skills would be especially appreciated!

Cleanweb Meetup: Startup Weekend Warmup and Cleanweb Round-up
Description changed:
In this meetup we'll be hearing from the team behind Startup Weekend Glasgow. Startup Weekend is a 54 hour event which sees peoples of all skills come together to build a start-up from scratch. There are hundreds of Startup Weekends running around the globe and this year's Glasgow event, held on the 25th October will be sustainability themed.
This is a perfect opportunity to find out more about the event. If you decide to participate you might end up meeting your team-mate, and, possibly, your future business partner!
We'll also have a Cleanweb round-up, hearing about the latest events, projects, and start-ups the Cleanweb movement is helping to support around the globe. There's plenty to talk about and perhaps some of the stories will serve as inspiration for the upcoming Startup Weekend.
