This month we are delighted to welcome Ricky Callaghan, who will be talking to us about how ethnographic methods can be used in researching user experience.
6.30pm - Intro & community announcements
6.45pm - Breakout chat
7pm - 'Yeah, it was fine' - How can we research experience? (Ricky Callaghan)
7.30pm - Group thoughts, questions & discussion.
About Ricky's talk
How do we research experience? As researchers is it possible to encourage participants to share thoughts and feelings as opposed to just 'answering the question'. Used to learn about different cultures, Ethnography is traditionally conducted by anthropologists living within small communities to learn first-hand about day to day life. An ethnographic interview is a form of qualitative research based on Ethnography that aims to allow for trust between the researcher and interviewee to learn the 'truth' about their experiences.
About Ricky
Ricky is a recent MSc graduate of Edinburgh Napier University and a believer in the need for Human-Centred Design. Having conducted Ethnographic Interviews for his MSc dissertation he is in the process of writing a proposal paper on the benefits that Ethnographic Interviews can have within user research.

This month we continue our exploration of the different roles that make up human-centred design teams by turning our spotlight onto Content Design. We are delighted to welcome back Lauren Tormey, who will talk to us about what UX designers need to know about content design.
What a content designer wants UX designers to know about content
Content and content design are often an afterthought in the UX world. In this talk, Lauren will give an introduction to content design, including what it is, how it differs from other content roles, and how we can all be champions of usable, accessible, and inclusive content.
About Lauren
Lauren Tormey is a Content Designer at the University of Edinburgh. She works as part of a multi-disciplinary design team focusing on improving the digital provision for prospective students. Over her six years in higher education, she has used her editorial, CMS, and UX skills to support the creation and maintenance of more effective, human-centred content.
