For all who have previously travelled across from the West Coast for Bitcoin Meetups in Edinburgh in the past... we've finally got a meetup organised in Glasgow!
We'll be meeting at Sloans, just off Argyll Street. Come along if you fancy grabbing a beer and chatting about anything to do with Bitcoin and crypto-currencies - don't worry, no prior knowledge required.
As ever, **please sign up via the Meetup site if you're coming along**
Paul Puey, CEO and Co-founder of Airbitz will be joining us via Hangout from San Diego to run us through what his company's currently up to in the Bitcoin space...
Unlike the limited selection of banks that our traditional financial service gives us, Bitcoin presents a massive array of choices when it comes to choosing a wallet to store and use our bitcoin. But with great power and options comes great responsibility and due diligence.
In this talk, Paul will cover various key features to look for and questions to ask before deciding on a type and provider of wallet to use. He'll then cover the newly launched Airbitz Mobile Wallet & Business Directory and describe how it aims to tackle the three pillars of security, privacy, and ease of use.
**Please sign up via the Meetup site if you want to come along**
That way we can ensure everyone's made it into the building and got a seat by the time that the talk itself kicks off around 7pm.
For all who have previously travelled across from the West Coast for Bitcoin Meetups in Edinburgh in the past... we've finally got a meetup organised in Glasgow - and it's going to be big!
The location has been agreed and will be publicised closer to the event - but it is in the City Centre. There will be some big news to announce on the night also, a first for Scotland. If you're interested in Bitcoin in Scotland, you'll not want to miss it.
As ever, **please sign up via the Meetup site if you're coming along**
Many people in the Bitcoin world have been following the progress of the first major documentary film about the topic, "The Rise & Rise Of Bitcoin". It seems to have been in development for a long time now - but finally the release date is here!
As a special one-off event, I've arranged with Nicholas Mross, the director, that we'll screen the film in CodeBase. All being well, Nicholas will then call into the meetup by video from Pittsburgh afterwards to discuss the film and answer some questions.
IMPORTANT: If you're coming along **please sign up via Meetup beforehand**
We'll start the film by 6:30pm at the absolute latest so please be in as close to 6pm as possible to avoid any issues with being let into the building etc. and to hear any intro talks.
This is one for beginners and seasoned scene stalwarts alike, explaining the origins of Bitcoin and the potential impact the technology might have moving forwards.

Bitcoin Wallets: Paul Puey (CEO & Co-Founder, Airbitz)

MaidSafe & The Decentralisation of the Internet (Edinburgh Bitcoin Meetup #5)
Description changed:
We're delighted to join forces with our friends at Codebase, the largest technology incubator in Scotland, for this meetup to put on a talk by members David Irvine and Nick Lambert of MaidSafe.
Not heard of them yet? You should have. Through the SAFE Network, the guys have developed a way to decentralise the internet. Yes - it's as big as it sounds.
If the vision comes to pass, the work carried out quietly by a few folk based in Troon for the last eight years is about to fundamentally change the relationship that each of us has with the internet forever.
The press and the public have now realised that this could be the start of something very big indeed. After launching a crowd sale in April via Bitcoin/Mastercoin, they raised a staggering $6 million in only 5 hours.
You can read further coverage of the MaidSafe story so far in Forbes, Wall Street Journal and Wired amongst others.
This is a talk for any Bitcoin enthusiasts, technologists, those interested in privacy, security, freedom, the internet, the future....the whole lot to be honest. Come and learn more about what's going on.
Note: NEW VENUE - The Wash Bar, The Mound, Edinburgh

As usual, the meetup is a monthly chance for folk with an interest in Bitcoin to get together and have a chat. Just pitch up, grab a drink and dive in - we're a friendly bunch. This time around, Andy and Alan from Coining House will be giving a quick chat about the project and no doubt will be delighted to get feedback from the group before the official launch on 1st May.
I'll also feed back to the group on the discussion around the creation of a Bitcoin organisation within Scotland
If you've not been to one of the meetups before, we've got a great mix of people in the group who know Bitcoin and crypto-currencies inside out - entrepreneurs, investors, miners, coders plus people who are completely new to the subject but just keen to try to learn about what's really going on across the world. So if you've just heard about Bitcoin in the press but still don't understand what the fuss is all about, feel free to come along.
As ever, please do share the details of this meetup amongst your own networks and RSVP. Any questions, get in touch via Twitter (@dugcampbell)
A chance for people to get together regularly to talk Bitcoin, crypto-currencies and decentralisation in general. The group is open to everyone involved in the Bitcoin community - experts, amateurs, miners, critics, whoever. If in doubt, come along and learn something new.
