Ethereum Scotland Meetup (ETH//SCT): ETH//SCT (Ethereum Edinburgh) #2

EVENT DETAILS

18:00 REGISTRATION

18:30 - 19:00 Simon Montford (www.simonmontford.com) (WEB3//IOT (www.web3iot.com))

Open Forum; members are invited to make announcements, share news, seek project collaborators, promote Ethereum events, and request topics for future Meetups.

19:00 - 19:30 Simon Montford (www.linkedin.com) (WEB3//IOT (www.web3iot.com))

Simon will give a brief market recap as a lot has happened since the last meetup! The US SEC deemed tokens issued by The DAO (a decentralised organisation that ran on Ethereum) as securities, and China banned all ICOs. Surprisingly there was a brief dip in the price of Ether followed by a full recovery. Testing of Raiden is under way, which promises to speed up transactions. The Metropolis hard fork has been delayed yet again, but will be released in two phases, Byzantium and Constantinople.

19:30 - 20:00 NETWORKING BREAK

20:00 - 20:30 Ronan Sanford (www.linkedin.com) (Etherplay (etherplay.io))

Etherplay brings the fun of video games to blockchain. Apart from their current skill game platform, the company is also building a fully decentralised game that utilises blockchain technology. Ronan will provide an insight into how his team works, and what challenges they have encountered. Also, if you have some testnet ether and a web3 enabled browser you will be able to try it out yourself.

20:30 - 21:00 NETWORKING DRINKS

We need to automate and decentralise the web! Ethereum could be the perfect solution as it is an open-source, public, blockchain-based distributed computing platform featuring smart contract functionality. The Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) can execute scripts using an international network of public nodes, and also provides a cryptocurrency token called "ether". We need a new kind of web for the machine age, which we like to call "Web 3.0". Want to help us create a better, more decentralised and efficient web? If yes, then join us!
