PHP Cambridge: Work Smart, Not Hard & Web mapping with open data

We have two talks this evening, we plan to start a little earlier - around 7:15pm - so please arrive by 7pm so we can start at 7:15. The talks should finish around 9pm, you're welcome to stay on for drinks and chat afterwards.

7:15 - Our first talk is Work Smart, Not Hard by Paula Muldoon

Work Smart, Not Hard draws on Paula’s experience as an international violinist and Makers Academy alumna to promote practices that lead to code that’s well-designed, extensible, easy to debug, and enjoyable to write. A 5-minute violin recital precedes the talk.

Paula Muldoon retrained at Makers Academy after an international career as a violinist and is now a PHP developer at Kurt Geiger. She has performed in over 20 countries, including recording at Abbey Road, and also blogs as The Mindful Violinist and Fiddlers Code. Originally from the USA, she holds degrees from the University of Michigan and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She loves software development because you never stop learning!

7:50 - Short break

8:00 - We'll be following this up with a talk on Web mapping (with open data) with Martin Lucas-Smith from CycleStreets.

In this talk/demo I'll show how you can create interactive maps for your site, show integrate geo data, and show how to serve that data from your database as an API.
