Open Rights Group Leeds: Leeds 'Human Rights under Brexit' hustings - quiz your future MP!

Local residents (and those from surrounding areas) are invited to attend this FREE event, giving you the opportunity to ask parliamentary candidates in the Leeds area what their proposals for human rights and digital rights under Brexit are. We will ensure that issues around surveillance, privacy, migrant rights and democracy are included in the debate.

This event is kindly supported by Amnesty International Leeds and Global Justice Leeds.

Please arrive at the venue from 7.30pm for free refreshments, the hustings will start at 8.00pm and finish at 9.30pm.

Candidates

We have invited candidates from the parties contesting the Leeds Central constituency.

The following candidates have confirmed their attendance;

- Hilary Benn, Labour
- Ed Carlisle, Green Party
- Andy Nash, Liberal Democrats
- Bill Palfreman, UKIP

The Conservative and Christian Peoples Alliance candidates were unavailable.

Outline

Each candidate will be given a maximum of 5 minutes to outline their position on human rights and digital rights, followed by a few prepared questions on the following subjects;

- Privacy and mass surveillance (Investigatory Powers Act)
- Freedom of expression / the press (Espionage Act proposals)
- Position on Human Rights Act / European Convention on Human Rights

We will then invite questions from the audience for the remainder of the evening.
