Docker Edinburgh: Docker Meetup

The Docker Edinburgh meetup takes place at Codebase, in their Event Space, which is accessible from the entrance on 38 Castle Terrace. The Meetup will run from around 18h30 to 20h00, with further discussion afterwards in the pub! Cloudsoft will be sponsoring the meetup, and pizza and beer will be provided.

Please let us know what sort of speakers or topics you would like to see at future Meetups, or if there are alternative formats like lightning talks that would prefer.

We're always looking for new speakers, so please get in touch if you have something you'd like to present about Docker or the wider DevOps community!

Speakers

Diego Arenas - A Data Science Architecture with Docker

Diego will give an overview of a lambda architecture and how it is deployed with Docker. The architecture includes: a streaming analytics platform like Kafka, machine learning models deployed as services, Postgres databases for persistent data and a Hadoop cluster for big data analysis amongst other tools. Developers can expect to learn more about data analysis, and data analysts can expect to learn more about development and microservices.

Tom Bamford - Supporting development with Rancher

Tom, an engineer, details his own journey to introduce a Docker to development teams within a Financial Services institution and introduces Rancher, an open source Docker platform that is billed to enable organisations to run containers in production.

Setting up and managing installations of Docker orchestrators (Kubernetes/Swarm/Mesos) is non-trivial, and often goes beyond the investment of time that development teams are willing to spend; use of Docker will rarely advance beyond local development environments.

This talk will focus on supporting that development lifecycle and will dive into some of the cool features of the Rancher platform.
