Edinburgh Mobile Dev Meetup

Our regular Mobile Dev Meetup event!

The event will be hosted at the NN4M office and there will be pizza and beer provided.

We'll be welcoming people into the office from around 6.30. There'll be plenty of time to network and get to know the other members in the community around the talks. There'll also be time before the talks to have introductions and any notices regarding team ups, projects, recruitment etc.

Topics can be more technical with a focus on app development or more focused on the business/monetisation side. The event will cater to app development in general but if the content of an event will be more platform-specific we will try to announce this as early as possible to ensure you sign up for the events most relevant to you.

The event should be over by around 9.

Speakers:

Martin Hawksey

Bio: By day Chief Innovation, Community and Technology Officer at ALT, by night a Google Developer Expert, mashup, social network, analytics, Google Apps Script, data junkie. You can find out more here: mashe.hawksey.info

Topic: Google Apps Script: The Authentic{ated} Playground

Description: You've probably not heard of Google Apps Script even though it's been around since 2009. Google Apps Script lives in Google Drive and is entirely cloud-based ... even the IDE is a web interface. Living in Google Drive means that developers can use Google Apps Script in a Google pre-authenticated environment which makes it possible to integrate into other Google services with a couple of lines of code. This turns Google Drive into a rich playground for a wide range of solutions from custom reporting using Google Sheets as a data interface; quick hacks to get the job done; custom interfaces for Docs, Sheets and Forms; to full blown application deployment to web and mobile. In this talk you'll discover some of the main features of Google Apps Script, highlighting how Apps Script can help your productivity as well as doing some more playful things

Craig Russell

Bio: Craig is an Android developer with over 6 years’ experience in developing Android apps and libraries. He has a lot of love for unit testing and writing clean code. Having worked with companies and clients large and small, he can’t resist process optimization and enjoys identifying and eliminating waste during the software development process. You can check out some of his Android lessons on caster.io: caster.io

Topic: Mocking your Tests

Description: What makes a unit test a good unit test? How does the use of test doubles like stubs and mocks help keep our unit tests good? This talk will aim to demonstrate this using examples in Mockito but will be more about how a mocking/stubbing framework can help you write better unit tests than Mockito itself. This should help it appeal to people of all backgrounds, not just those working with Java/Android

Our events are now also streamed on the ProductForge YouTube channel available here and can be watched on video afterwards: productforge.io
