Edinburgh Digital Entertainment Festival, presented by Riverside Studios, brings together the worlds of arts, entertainment and technology – to showcase the best of what is happening right now and provoke the conversation about what comes next.
We’re bringing the best of international performing arts to Edinburgh, with a staggering line up of event cinema screenings of theatre, ballet, opera, special events and art exhibitions in the Assembly Rooms’ Music Hall. Missed out on tickets to Benedict Cumberbatch’s sold-out Hamlet? Always wanted to see Matthew Bourne’s gender-switched Swan Lake? Dream of seeing Stephen Fry and Mark Rylance trade witticisms on the stage of the Globe? Look no further.
We see virtual reality, new technology and gaming as the new frontiers for arts and entertainment, and at Edinburgh Digital Entertainment Festival, you can take a spacewalk in the Virtual Reality Studio, test out ground-breaking new gadgetry in the Tech Hub, and aspiring coders, gamers and robot-creators can level up their skills in workshops the whole family can enjoy. Delve deeper into the opportunities and challenges of digital entertainment in a series of talks, panels and workshops.
Outside the venue, we’ve curated a street cinema programme that includes cinematic visions of the future, rarities from the BBC Play for Today archive, short films and a healthy dash of classic horror and musicals.
The wonderful thing about starting this journey has been the range of partners and organisations that have lent the Festival their support. We thank them all. Edinburgh Digital Entertainment Festival has something for everyone to enjoy – we look forward to you joining us.
