The electronic display has become our primary interface for work, entertainment and communication. Through the screens of our smartphones, tablets, desktop computers, e-books and interactive televisions, we are increasingly dependent upon the performance of visual display interfaces to undertake our daily tasks, communicate with each other and to consume information and entertainment.
Drawing on his own anomalous perception of colour as an example, Wayne Cranton will discuss how the science of light and its interaction with materials has been used to develop technologies for display systems and how this relates to the capabilities of human vision and perception. The lecture will explore some of the key areas investigated by Wayne and his collaborators over the past 20 years, including light emitting thin films, display device engineering, and novel techniques for the next generation of transparent and flexible electronics.
