Our regular Mobile Dev Meetup event!
The event will be hosted at the NN4M office and there will be pizza and beer provided.
We'll be welcoming people into the office from around 6.30. There'll be plenty of time to network and get to know the other members in the community around the talks. There'll also be time before the talks to have introductions and any notices regarding team ups, projects, recruitment etc.
Topics can be more technical with a focus on app development and preferred frameworks and libraries. The event will cater to app development in general but if the content of an event will be more platform-specific we will try to announce this as early as possible to ensure you sign up for the events most relevant to you.
The event should be over by around 9.
Speaker: Geoff Ballinger
Title: IoT’s turn for the Kool-Aid?
Summary: IoT is definitely one of the big buzzwords this year, but does anybody really know what it is, or how it will change our digital (and physical!) world? I will give a somewhat "glass half empty" take on IoT and the surrounding hype, focussing on the real technical challenges we face building out this connected future.
Bio: Geoff has been involved with Scottish mobile, tech and entertainment startups for more years than he cares to admit. He is currently System Architect at game analytics and player marketing platform provider deltaDNA, and is also founder and organiser of Mobile Monday Edinburgh #MoMoEdi
Speaker: Richard Keen
Title: There's a chat for that – is messaging the next big platform?
— Richard will explore whether messaging platforms and extensible voice assistants are really the next big thing, and where that could leave apps and mobile web. He may even attempt a highly risky live demo or two.
Richard started his career as a Perl developer but has since made amends. He has worked on mapping platforms at Multimap and Microsoft and led development of a mobile assistant platform at Axon Vibe. These days he works at Skyscanner as Mobile Architect. You'll find him on Twitter at @richardkeen.
