Freelancers, agencies and clients – How can we work together more openly?

We're regularly putting together teams of people who are a mixture of employees, freelancers, and partners. How teams get formed, what support they need, how relationships work are all things we are learning about and improving from one day to the next.

What is this event about?
You’re invited to join us for a session to agree on a common set of principles for working together, set expectations, and raise the bar for everyone.

This event is for all freelancers and people freelancing within the digital sector.

If you’re an experienced freelancer, thinking of becoming a freelancer, work with or employ freelancers as part of your business, or work with agencies that use the skills of freelancers, then we think you’ll find this helpful.

And we need your input and help too.

It's important that the conversation includes different voices and experiences. You might be a designer, developer, illustrator, marketeer, producer, account manager or something else. Your role isn’t important, but having an interest in how freelancers are treated is.

Format of the event
The timings for the event are:

6.00 pm - Hello and introduction to the event
6.15 pm - Talks and plenty of time for questions and thoughts in between them
7.30 pm - A conversation on how can we work together to agree on some common principles so that whenever an agency or a client asks for a freelancer's help we can say how we expect people to be treated
8.00 pm - Finish

The speakers for this event are:
Sian Murray
Shehla Ali
Jag Uppal
Cam Spilman and Jon Rhodes

The event has a goal too.
We want to work together to agree on some common principles so that whenever an agency or a client asks for a freelancer's help we can confidently say how we expect people to be treated. We’d love you to help create these initial principles.

How you can join
We’d love you to join us, either in person or remotely.

This will be the first time we’ve tried to run a hybrid in person and online event. If there are any technical issues on the day, please bear with us - thanks!
