R Ladies Edinburgh: Always look on the bright side of plots w/ Kara Woo & rstudio::global(2021)

For this virtual meetup, we're collaborating with the folks at RStudio and hosting Kara Woo (Principal Bioinformatics Engineer at Sage Bionetworks). We'll start off with a brief introduction to rstudio::global(2021) and then watch Kara's rstudio::global talk "Always look on the bright side of plots" followed by a live Q&A with Kara! Zoom password will be sent out the day of the event.

Always look on the bright side of plots
Everyone who creates visualizations in R is bound to make mistakes that prevent their plots from looking as they should. Sometimes, these mistakes create beautiful "accidental aRt", though other times they're just plain frustrating. Either way, however, there's something to be learned. This talk will draw on years of watching both the ggplot2 issue tracker and the @accidental__aRt Twitter account to highlight some common plot foibles and explain what they can teach us about how ggplot2 works.

rstudio::global is a free, virtual event on all things R & RStudio.
It's hosted over 24-hours – giving people at different timezones a number of options to conveniently engage – with a number of talks and community-engagement events we hope you'll enjoy. It starts on January 21 at 4:00 PM GMT. Learn more about rstudio::global and register at global.rstudio.com.

R-Ladies is a worldwide organization whose mission is to promote gender diversity in the R community.

A question we often get is "Are men welcome to attend this event?"

As a diversity initiative, the mission of R-Ladies is to achieve proportionate representation by encouraging, inspiring, and empowering people of genders currently underrepresented in the R community. R-Ladies’ primary focus, therefore, is on supporting minority gender R enthusiasts to achieve their programming potential, by building a collaborative global network of R leaders, mentors, learners, and developers to facilitate individual and collective progress worldwide.

**As such, we strongly encourage cis-men who attend this event to come as guests of R-Ladies who are minority genders (including but not limited to cis/trans women, trans men, non-binary, genderqueer, agender).**

All attendees are strongly encouraged to review the R-Ladies Code of Conduct (rladies.org) and must abide by it.
