PyData Edinburgh: Data-Driven Healthcare at snap40

Welcome to the first meetup of 2019 for the PyData Edinburgh group!
We're delighted to be back at SolarWinds again (to avoid ending up in the parking lot, don't use sat nav, follow the instructions on our address 😆 )

We'll have our regular update on the PyData community, lightning talks and we're delighted to have Annabel Kramer join us from Snap40 to give our main talk.

We look forward to seeing you there - doors open at 1815, make sure you've clicked attend to reserve your place!

TALK DETAILS
=============

Data-Driven Healthcare at snap40
---------------------------------------------------------------

Presenter: Annabel Kramer
While completing a Cognitive Science degree at University of Edinburgh, Annabel quickly realised no one has a clue what this is, and decided to specialise in the more practical subjects of NLP and speech technology. After graduating, she joined health tech startup snap40 as a Data Scientist, where she loves working in a multidisciplinary team and an industry that uses more acronyms than a computational linguistics journal.

Description:
snap40 is a growing tech startup based in Edinburgh with the mission to radically improve healthcare across the globe. Using our wearable device, we monitor vital signs and automatically identify patients at high risk of deterioration, alerting healthcare staff through our app.

The Data Science team at snap40 is responsible for many parts of our system, such as developing accurate, interpretable vital sign estimation algorithms, deterioration modeling, and using enough hidden layers to call ourselves an AI company.

From wrangling health data to determining when our device is off-arm — come along to discover some of the frustrations and delights of working in the healthcare space.

LIGHTNING TALKS
==================
Share your stories! Share your successes & failures! Share your hints & tips! Whether you are a beginner or an expert, we want to hear from you.

If you want to give a lightning talk at this event, send us a message either here on Meetup, through Twitter @PyDataEdinburgh or any other way you know how to find us!

Just 5 minutes, still informal, no need for slides unless you want them — go on, give it a go!
