Meteorgear: Coders Night - More Adventures in Python

Paul will walk through four more adventures in Python he experienced in the past few weeks. Really useful things can be impemented in 20ish lines of code or less using Python’s extensive library of modules. This meetings examples include capturing realtime data from a flight simulator, scraping API documentation from a website into a data structure, and creating some experiments in machine learning. You will see how Python is an excellent choice for rapidly and easily bending the will of the computer to do your bidding, rather than the other way around!

About it: Leicester Coders Night (LCN) is an evening like no other, dedicated to coders. Open to programmers & friends, LCN is all about improving your old skills, making some new skills and introducing yourself to a whole other world, the world of computing.During coders evening, participants will get the opportunity to talk to other coders/developers/programmers and peer learners.

LCN is not a hackathon - whether you come to learn, code, or to network, everyone will walk away with new friends and a great experience. The event is a great team-building exercise, a great way to support your friends, and a great way for you to show off your coding skills.

**What is on offer**
An opportunity to learn …… more about programming….other programming languages and a great opportunity for all those geniuses out there.

Three PARTS:

This event comprises of three parts:

Introductions
Introduce your-self, your job/role, your organisation or ideas you want to share. This is an opportunity for coders to get to know each other. You are welcome to use the provided AV facilities to run a small presentation if you want.

Learning Session A presentation session will be held to get you started in coding or improving with the help of a developer. If your ever stuck, ask questions and peers will happily help. So come along and experience a fun time full of coding.

Attendees can stay after the session to code for fun or help others.

For this meeting Paul Muston from Musoft will give a talk on how useful Python is for getting stuff done. For anything from a quick script, through to production automation, including big data analytics, to production websites include SaaS. It is also great for learning aspects of computing, either imperative or declarative, object oriented or functional programming.
The Python language has just 33 keywords, but is extremely expressive. There are currently more than 100,000 packages available on PyPI, which are just a “pip install” away. Utility packages range from fuzzy date parsing utilities to web frameworks used by the likes of Pinterest and Instagram. It also has packages that excel in the fields of data processing and machine learning.
