BCS Glasgow & West of Scotland: Internet Interconnects - What makes the Internet cheap and robust?

1830 Arrival for 1900 Start.

From the very early days of the Internet, with highly centralised points of interconnects between the various networks, through to todays highly distributed interconnects and 'close to the edge' content distribution, Internet interconnects have been at the heart of what makes the Internet work. The evolution of Interconnects is what has kept the Internet able to cope with growing End User bandwidth demand, yet provide an extremely robust and distributed service. We will learn about the history of Internet interconnects, their technology, and also where the future of Internet services such as Streaming and Cloud services is taking the Internet; How Interconnects will play an important part of guaranteeing a robust and resilient service delivery in the future.
