Open Source Glasgow: Linux command line basics for beginners (and hackers!)

Guided exploration of the Linux server command line

Aimed at absolute beginners. We'll show how to securely connect to a server then we'll work through Bandit, an adventure game set in the command line that progresses step-by-step from the basics to common programs and beyond.

This will be an in-person event in the quiet lounge of the newly refurbished Avalon bar, just next to Mitchell Library at Charing Cross.

I'll work through the challenges on the big screen and explain what I'm doing as well all work together though the levels. Join in and play along or feel free to work on your own thing (setting up a server, coding etc) and someone there should be able to assist you if needed.

As always, remember to check out our open source chatroom on Matrix at #opensource:glasgow.social (sign up at matrix.glasgow.social if you don't have your own homeserver).

The event is free, but there will be a donation tin to cover the meetup costs if you'd like to help out.

We'll meet in the lounge to the right as you come in. It's a quiet separate area we have to ourselves all evening. Look out for all the laptops.
