With 2013 now in the past, 2014 is an exciting year for PHP. Composer really took the PHP community by storm, allowing everyone to make better use of each other’s libraries, and saved a ton of people reinventing the wheel just because there was no good way of managing 3rd party dependencies. Those days are over for good!
This has paved the way for more and more developers to contribute libraries / bundles / plugins / widgets to their PHP tools of choice. It’s never been so good!
If that’s the case, then isn’t it about time people started talking PHP more seriously in 2014? What do you say to the haters? We shouldn't have to keep sticking up for PHP, as those who use it day to day know it's a different language and ecosystem than it was even a few years ago.
In this month’s edPUG, we will play Keith Adams, a Virtual Machinist at Facebook's Talk: "Taking PHP Seriously"
Keith is one of the initial designers and implementers of HHVM, the open source PHP JIT that runs Facebook's front-end. Through a series of mostly fortunate events, Keith became a founding member of The I-can't-believe-I'm-a-PHP-advocate Club. Before working at Facebook, Keith worked on VMware's virtual machine monitor.
In the talk, Keith Adams outlines PHP's strengths and Facebook's attempts at remedying the inconsistencies and misfeatures in the core language.
Come ease in 2014 and watch it with long abused PHP developers over a few beers and PHPizza!
