Scotland Data Science & Technology MeetUp: Aberdeen Oct 2019 Data Meetup

October's data meet-up (details coming soon)

Pizza, beer and networking 6.30pm

Talk 1 Greg Fousas - "Make any company an AI company!"

AI and Machine Learning have become must-haves for almost all industries and companies. H2O.ai's goal is to help companies all over the world to use Machine Learning. H2O.ai's toolset starts from full opensource packages in R, Python and Spark and extends to a fully automated platform for building predictive models, the Driverless AI!

Greg is a data scientist with work experience that spans more than 20 projects, 15 brands, 5 industries and 5 countries and still counting! He studied Production Engineering and Management, he has a MSc in Operational Research from the University of Edinburgh and studied a bit of Cognitive Science. Recently he completed a self driving car nanodegree. Greg also runs an amateur online Python course entitled “your 10 minutes of Python per day” and is happy to be able to call Scotland home.

Talk 2 (19:45) - Prof. Nir Oren "Explaining AI system behaviour"

In this talk Nir will provide a high level introduction to argumentation and dialogue theory. He will describe how this can be used to provide explanation regarding the reasoning and behaviour of autonomous systems, increasing their predictability and trust.

Nir is a professor of computing science (and head of computing) at the University of Aberdeen. He obtained his PhD in 2007, and was a post-doctoral researcher at King's College London until 2010. His research interests revolve around decision making in complex environments and human-ai interactions, with a particular focus on topics such as computational trust, policy compliant reasoning, and argument based reasoning. Nir has participated in several industry/academic research projects. For example, as part of the "Scrutable Autonomous Systems" project, Nir investigated how explanations about the behaviour of an autonomous system can be automatically generated, while within the PACFiND project, he is looking at how patient behaviour can be summarised and explained effectively to clinicians using argumentation and dialogue techniques.

More Information

This is a group for anyone interested in Data Science, Big Data, Analytics and Technology trends. We started this group to build a community to discuss general insights into the market and share personal experiences of working and operating in this area. We hope to cover skills shortages, technological advancements and organisational implications in Data Science and Technology during our series of meetups. All skill levels are welcome.
