Scotland Data Science & Technology MeetUp: Aberdeen Data Meetup May 2019

6.30 for pizza and beers.

7pm - 8.30pm Getting started in data science - a gentle introduction to some of the tools and techniques.

In this session Ian Watt, of The Data Lab and Code The City will speak us through:

a) Setting up your laptop for data science using Python, Anaconda, and Jupyter Notebooks and the importance of good habits such as using virtual environments for projects.

(break)

b) A live practical walk through of using Jupyter Notebooks and Python libraries and tools such as Pandas and Seaborn to do some exploratory data analysis of publicly-available Open Data, and creating simple charts from that.

Please note that we will have our regular seating setup which will make coding along difficult on this occasion.

So, there is no need to bring a laptop, as the session will be shared online as a downloadable set of slides (for setting up your environment) and a Jupyter notebook containing code and annotations that you can read run and interact with yourself at home.

Finally, we will have some important news about future events.
