For the June edition of the Scotland Data Science and Technology Meetup we would like to welcome two fantastic speakers for an evening of insight into overcoming challenges in a big data environment and also the General Data Protection Regulation.

Speaker 1: Hew Bruce-Gardyne, Co-Founder at TVSquared Ltd - uk.linkedin.com

Hew Bruce-Gardyne, co-founder of TVSquared will discuss some of the challenges presented by fast growth in a big data environment, what he's learned and some of the opportunities that arise as a result.

Bio:
Hew has spent the majority of his career finding new and innovative ways of making data analytics transformative for businesses across a wide range of industries. As principal analyst and head of IT analytics at Sumerian, a provider of big data analytics for retail and investment banks, Hew was responsible for optimization modeling and analysis for big-name financial clients across the globe. He has also served as CTO and head of IT analytics for Registers of Scotland.

Speaker 2: Zach Thornton, External Affairs Manager at DMA Scotland - uk.linkedin.com

An overview of the changes in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and what they mean for direct marketers. As well as advice on what questions you should be asking of your business on the road to compliance with the GDPR.

Bio
Zach Thornton, External Affairs Manager at DMA Scotland pursued a career in public affairs beginning life in the external affairs department at the Home Builders Federation (HBF) and now currently works at the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) as the external affairs manager. He is passionate about politics and current affairs, having stood as a candidate for Borough Councillor in the May 2014 local elections in Tower Hamlets, London.

Over the last two years, DMA has really owned the space for GDPR in lobbying, creating working parties and working hard to ensure data protection law that strikes the right balance between the interest of businesses and the rights of consumers.
