Internet of Things Scotland Meetup (IOT-SCT): IOT//EDINBURGH (The Maker Revolution)

The availability of innovations such as low cost sensors, microcontroller-based kits, 3D printers, and ubiquitous connectivity combined with the growing popularity of hackerspaces, Fab Labs, and other "maker spaces" has transformed the "Maker Movement" into a "Maker Revolution"!

The Maker Movement started around ten years ago when people realised that digital fabrication was no longer the exclusive domain of institutions. Instead of buying products, or wait for them to be produced by large OEMs, "Makers" could simply build things themselves.

The "Maker Revolution" is gaining momentum in Scotland with an increasing number of "maker spaces" opening for business. They include Edinburgh Hacklab at Summer Hall, Dundee Maker Space, and the Electron Club in Glasgow.

The "Maker Revolution" has been further boosted by the popularity of crowdfunding platforms such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo that enable "Makers" and "Hackers" to go directly to "supporters" to fund their work.

This event will celebrate the "Maker Revolution" by covering a wide range or Maker-related topics (see below). If you'd like to speak at this event, or demo some cool "Maker" related technology please get in touch with me (simon at web3iot dot com). If you'd like to network, listen to some interesting speakers, or show off something you've made yourself, simply RSVP and show up on the day. It's a free event but capacity is limited!
