Hi everyone,
Apologies for the change in event plan, rest assured we will be holding the local politics session as the November meetup. An important campaign is coming up that we want to give ORG London members the insiders view on!
Venue update
We will now be using the wonderful Newspeak House in Shoreditch for our monthly events.
Newspeak House is a venue and member's club that supports society-changing projects and they have very kindly decided to support ORG London! You can become a member to support their work and they even have rooms to rent for those who've just moved to London.
October Meetup
The Government is expected to announce new surveillance legislation, the Investigatory Powers Bill, very soon, as in a matter of weeks. It will likely extend surveillance powers even further.
Hear ORG’s Executive Director Jim Killock share his view on the likely content and impact of the Bill. Then come up with your own winning campaign idea in group discussions.
7.00 to 7.30pm: ‘What is the Investigatory Powers Bill?’ Talk from Jim Killock, Executive Director of Open Rights Group
Jim has been the Executive Director of Open Rights Group since January 2009.
The Government is expected to announce the new Investigatory Powers Bill (a return of the Snoopers’ Charter) in late Autumn. It is likely to extend surveillance powers for police.
7.30 to 8.00pm: Group Discussion & Feedback - 'What could the Investigatory Powers Bill mean?'
We will discuss our thoughts on the Bill and how could impact the UK and our local area.
8.00 to 8.30pm: Group Discussion & Feedback - Create Your Own Winning Surveillance Campaign
In groups come up with one big campaign idea, it could be a video or a public protest - you decide!
See you there,
Grant
