Open Rights Group London: Snoopers' Charter: Lobby your MP in Parliament

** This event was originally planned for Wednesday 8th July at 1pm. We have re-arranged it for Thursday 16th July at 2pm.**

The Government's planning to publish a draft of a new law that's likely to extend the surveillance powers of the police and GCHQ in early autumn.

MPs will have until the start of next year to examine it.

That means we have to start talking to MPs now so they remember the views of their constituents when they're thinking about the new law.

We're organising a lobby afternoon in Parliament where we'll help you talk about Internet surveillance to your MP.

Here's the plan.

1. Come to Parliament for the afternoon2. Get a briefing from ORG, Tom Brake MP and a couple of other MPs about surveillance and what to say to your MP3. Ask any questions you've got4. Then go and talk to your MP

The briefing and Q&A will take about an hour from 2-3pm. Then we'll go to the Central Lobby of Parliament to ask to see our MPs.

You can email ahead to arrange a meeting for about 3.15pm too, but you can just ask to see them on the day too. Use this link to email your MP to pre-arrange a meeting:www.openrightsgroup.org

We're expecting that waiting to see your MP and the meeting itself could take up to an hour so you'll probably be finished by 4.30pm. Not every MP will necessarily be available but at the very least you should be able to talk to one of your MP's researchers.

It can take a while to get through security at Parliament so try to get there about 20 minutes before the briefing starts at 2pm.
